2 suspected car thieves killed in encounter
TWO suspected car thieves were killed in an encounter with operatives of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) in Binan City, Laguna on early dawn Friday, reports said.
HPG director, Chief Supt. Leonardo Espina, said that the latest encounter took place at around 2:05 a.m. in the vicinity of San Agustin Subd., Brgy. San Francisco of the said city.
Espina said that elements of HPG4A were conducting an anti-carnapping operation along the national hiway at Brgy. Halang also of the said city when it spotted the suspects on board an unlicensed motorcycle.
The HPG chief said their operatives tried to flag down the suspects, but instead of yielding, the suspects fled resulting to a chase that reaches the vicinity of San Agustin Subdivision.
The suspects fired several shots at the HPG operatives, who returned fire.
Recovered from the encounter site were three .38 caliber revolvers, the unlicensed Yamaha motorcycle while authorities were trying to establish the identities of the slain suspects. Anthony Vargas
