ASG bombed another bridge in Sulu – PNP
SUSPECTED Abu Sayyaf (ASG) members on late Saturday night bombed another bridge in a remote village in Sulu province stalling traffic in the area, police reports said Sunday.
The bombing of the bridge came hours after the US embassy in Manila issued its latest travel advisory warning its citizens of going to Mindanao, particularly in Sulu due to high risk of ‘terror’ attacks.
Reports reaching Camp Crame said bombed by ASG members was the KM 15 Bridge located at Brgy. Pangdanon in Patikul town, a known lair of the Al-Qaeda linked militant groups.
The reports, sent by the ARMM police regional office, said that ASG members used an improvised explosive device (IED) in blowing up the bridge at around 10:40 pm Saturday.
No casualties were reported in the explosion, which caused total damage to the bridge rendering it not passable to all types of vehicles and shutting down Patikul town from the Sulu capital town of Jolo, the reports said.
The reports said that ASG members used a wrist-watch as a timing device for the IED. Police are still investigating the said incident.
