First day of Corona’s impeachment trial peaceful – PNP
THE first day of the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona before the Senate sitting as Impeachment Court on Monday was generally peaceful and orderly, a ranking police official said.
Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesman Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz Jr., said police have recorded no any untoward incident during the first day of the trial despite of several rallies and protest actions from both camps.
“So far so good, the first day of the impeachment trial went well… it was very peaceful and supporters of both camps were orderly in the conduct of the respective activities,” Cruz said.
The PNP spokesman said that the Southern Police District (SPD) will continue to deploy sizeable number of personnel at the senate grounds to ensure that the impeachment trial will go on smoothly.
“Our personnel will continue to manned their stations in the area and secure the proceedings up to the end…. But our main task here is only in security,” Cruz said.
The PNP spokesman said that they estimated that there are less than 600 people have massed up at the senate to show their respective supports to the chief justice and his accuser.
