Gomez, Barbosa share lead in India chess tilt
FILIPINO Grandmasters John Paul Gomez and Oliver Barbosa toppled their respective rivals to share the lead in the sixth round of the 10th Parsvnath International Open Chess Tournament 2012 on Thursday at Ludlow Castle Sports Complex, Civil Lines in New Delhi, India.
Gomez, who is fresh from a runner-up finish in the SDAT-RMK 4th Chennai Open Grand Master Chess Tournament in Chennai, India over the weekend, nipped IM Lalith Babu M R of India to raise his total to 6.0 points. Barbosa matched that total after beating GM Marat Dzhumaev of Uzbekistan.
Rathnakaran K of India downed countryman fellow IM Thejkumar M S to take solo third place with 5.5 points.
GM Mark Paragua defeated Narayanan S L of India for 5.0 points and climbed to fourth to 11th places in the company of Dzhumaev. GM Richard Bitoon toppled Srikanth K of India to improve his record to 4.0 points, good for a share of 40th to 89th places.
In the seventh round, Gomez battles Barbosa for the solo leadership, Paragua meets Zeng Chongsheng of China and Bitoon faces Prince Bajaj of India.
