Rebel leader in Mindanao nabbed
COMBINED government security forces on late Friday afternoon (January 6) have arrested a former top communist rebel front leader that operates in the eastern Mindanao region, police reports said today.
Quoting reports coming from the field, PNP spokesman, Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz Jr., identified the arrested communist rebel leader as Gregorio Albaran alias Vincent Taoy and Benal.
The PNP official said Albaran was arrested in the vicinity of Libuganon Bridge in Brgy. Bincungan, Tagum City in Davao del Norte by the combined intelligence of the Regional Police, Davao Provincial Police Office and the Army’s 1003rd Brigade.
The PNP spokesman said that Albaran was arrested by virtue of warran of arrests issued by the various courts for various offenses ranging from murder, extortion and robbery.
Cruz added that Albaran, who is among the most wanted rebels, was the former secretary of the Front Committee 2 of the communist rebels that operates in the eastern part of Mindanao.
The arrested rebel leader is now in the custody of the Davao del Norte Provincial police office for proper disposition, the PNP official said. Anthony Vargas
