Frayna remains undefeated in age group tilt

REIGNING junior girls champion Woman National Master Janelle Mae Frayna remained undefeated to lead the march of favorites in the 2012 Gov. Oscar S. Moreno National Age Group Chess Championships at the Misamis Oriental Capitol Grounds.

The Far Eastern U standout had four wins in as many rounds, a full point ahead of closest pursuer WNM Jedara Docena in the Girls Under-20.

Another FEU bet Lennon Hart Salgados had the same advantage in the Boys Under-20 after notching his fourth win in four games. Trailing him by one point were McDominique Lagula, John Christian Lesaca and Jayben Ian Dalipe.

Also keeping a perfect score after four rounds and leading their respective categories were Austin Jacob Literatus in BU-16; Daryl Unix Samantila and Kenneth Norman Honculada in BU-14; Ella Grace Moulic and Janin Crisologo in GU-14; Me Ann Joy Baclayon in GU-10; and Methusellah Ramos in GU-8.

The other frontrunners were Valerio Mangubat and Romeo Canino (3.5) in BU-12; Ronald Canino, Nahid Jalani and Chrisus Joseph Sarchez (3.5) in BU-10; Alekhine Nouri (3.0) in BU-8; Alyssa Ysaiah Jamaca (3.5) in GU-16; and Natori Biazza Diaz (3.5) in GU-12.

The category champions in the tournament supported by the Misamis Oriental local government headed by Gov. Oscar S. Moreno and NCFP chairman/president Prospero “Butch” Pichay, Jr. will earn outright berths to the 2012 ASEAN+ Age Group Chess Championships in Hue, Vietnam.

The top five finishers in each category will also advance to the grand finals slated in Tanauan, Batangas from April 23-30 and get a chance to represent the country in the 2012 Asian Youth Championships in Sri Lanka. Noli Cruz
