Pinatulan nang pinatulan ito ng FM radio stations dahil sa overwhelming request per se from listeners and their avid following who are not in fairness not necessarily baduys or cd crowd (bumabawi ba?). Nagka-platinum sila without the alleged payola, although marunong naman daw silang makisama whatever this means.
The J Brothers if you don’t know them yet have been honed to almost perfection by the famous mentors/composers Nonoy Tan and the underrated Raffy Amoranto who was the co-founder of the music school put up by the late Butch Albarracin until their bitter separation due to as usual sa hindi pagkakasundo ng dalawa sa pilosopiya sa pagtuturo ng pagkanta.
Pero itong na-tagged nating mga miyembro ng J Brothers as singers of hit baduy songs ay in persons di pala mga baduys. Papano sila naging baduy gayung napaka-high end ang kanilang regular na kapwestuhan all these years_ ang mga branch ng Cowboy Grill ng Metro Manila no less.
Papano naman maging baduy ang J Brothers ngayong they have traveled almost half of the planet to perform their most requested songs to Pinoys all over the world. Sabi pa ng composer/vocalist na si Jay Jimenez who is a part-time faculty ng Techonological University of the Philippines (TUP) teaching Animation, Humanities and Art Appreciation classes: “Sa abroad wala namang ganung classification ng kanta na pang-AB, BC, or CD crowd ka lang, etc. Merong classification pero by genre like ballad, rock, R&B, jazz, etc. Ang hilig kasi nating mag-stereotype. Pero sa observation ko medyo nag-blur na ngayon ang classifications na ‘yan coz basta quality ang songs mo ay pinatugtog na sa FM stations kaya thanks to the FM for democratizing the opportunity to all serious musicians minus the baduy classification.”
Moreover, sina Jay at Jim ay talented animators by day. The two are comic book cartoonists for the local comic book series, Private Iris and the US comic book magazine, Fashion Police.
The good news is that Jay and Jim are into their 6th album launch cum concert billed J Brothers Jamming in which Jay will do highly re-inventive duets songs with well-known artists included in the album like the King Of Heartache Renz Verano, the voice behind the phenomenal song Larawang Kupas Jerome Abalos, finalist to the Next Big Superstar search Zari Bilon, pop indie young bloods Ynstynk, the non-pareil biritera Louise Tolibas and last but not the least DZBB’s hard-hitting radio commentator turned-singer without fear as in walang takot na si Gani Oro whose debut song with Jay Jimenez is billed Try Natin.
A fundraiser for children victims of Negros Oriental catastrophe, the album launch/concert at Cowboy Grill is on March 8 (Thurs.), 10 pm at Timog Ave., Q.C. Check it out.
