NPA leader, 3 others killed in Nueva Ecija encounter
MANILA, Philippines – At least four communist rebels were killed following an encounter with government troops in a remote village in Nuea Ecija on Thursday evening, military reports said Friday.
Initial reports reaching Camp Aguinaldo said the latest encounter between government troops and rebels took place at around 9pm Thursday at Sitio Tamale in Barangay Digmala, Bongabon town of said province.
The reports said that one of the four rebels that were killed in the encounter with troops from the army’s 81st Infantry Battalion was identified as Benjamin Peralta alias Gani, Otou and Onil. Also killed was a certain alias Sara.
The reports said that Peralta is usually called as the secretary or the highest ranking leader in terms of maintaining the ideological capacity of the New People’s Army (NPA) unit that operates in the province.
Government troops recovered in the encounter site were one M16 rifle; one carbine rifle; a .45 caliber pistol; two improvised explosive device; two fragmentation grenades; foods stuffs; medicines and documents with high intel value.
The reports said the troops are still scouring the area for other rebel remnants while coordinating with local government units for the possible identification of the two other rebels.
