Pagbabayad sa PCOS machines ipinatitigil

HINILING ngayon ni Senador Koko Pimentel sa Commission on Elections (Comelec) na itigil na ang anumang binabayaran nito sa Smartmatic Corporation para sa precinct count optical scan (PCOS) machines na ginamit noong 2010 national at local elections.

“It makes no sense to adopt the same poll automation technology in succeeding elections, particularly in 2013 and 2016, if the glaring defects of the PCOS system are not rectified this early,” ani Pimentel.

Binigyang-diin ni Pimentel na tumanggi ang Smartmatic na sabihin ang source code na ginagamit sa PCOS system, dahil umano sa lack of proprietary rights.

“Why did the Comelec deal with an entity which did not own the source code?” ani Pimentel.

Hiniling umano ng Smartmatic sa Comelec na ituloy ang PCOS machines noong 2010 elections dahil sa malaking discount.

“The machines are still kept in warehouses up to now and Smartmatic says the government would be able to save big money by buying the used machines instead of using a new poll automation system,” wika ni Pimentel.

Aniya pa, bilang biktima ng dagdag-bawas noong 2007 senatorial elections, nais lamang niyang makasiguro sa resulta ng halalan upang maiwasan ang nangyari sa kanya.
