Police nab wanted terror suspect — PNP
MANILA, Philippines – Police on Thursday said that it has recently recaptured one of the 31 inmates that have bolted out from the Basilan Provincial Jail in Isabela City, Basilan three years ago.
Camp Crame reports said Serman Bagyo Akalun alias Otoh Akalun was recaptured by joint Task Group Basilan last Tuesday morning at Barangay Libug, Sumisip town also of the same province.
Akalun is among the 31 inmates that bolted out from the Basilan Provincial Jail in Brgy. Sumagdang in Isabela City by overpowering their guards last December 9, 2009.
Akalun is detained there based on a warrant issued by Judge Danilo Bucoy for charges of murder, kidnapping and serious illegal detention with no bail recommended, reports said.
The PNP reports added Akalun is included in the Reward List of Counter Terrorism Unit with P100,000 reward offered for his arrest.
During his arrest, police recovered from his possession one M16 rifle with three magazines of ammo and one hand grenade, reports said.
The reports added that Akalun was brought back to the Basilan Provincial Jail for proper disposition.
