Is Aquino giving away Minda in exchange for Panatag?
PRESIDENT Benigno Simeon Aquino III is so keen in defending our sovereignty over the West Philippine Sea from the People’s Republic of China even at the risk of an open war with them and yet without any whimper he is apparently giving away strategic portions of Mindanao to the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.
This contradictory position of Aquino is puzzling until seen in the light of the reported pressure being exerted by the European Union and the United States for him to enter into a peace agreement with the MILF. Aquino’s reliance on foreign assistance to defend our country made him susceptible to subtle pressures particularly now that he is embroiled in a stand-off with China over some jutting stones into the sea known as Panatag Reef (Scarborough Shoal).
Marvic Leonen, Philippine chief negotiator with the MILF, announced recently in Kuala Lumpur that the government has agreed to the abolition of the Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao and the creation of a MILF controlled “substate.”
Obviously the abolition of the ARMM and creation of the MILF substate would result in an enlarge territory, more political control and economic and judicial independence for the rebels. The realization of this development is just what the foreigners are waiting for to begin the exploitation Mindanao’s remaining natural resources without being subject to the powers of the regular Philippine courts.
Take note that it was Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo,after reportedly being pressured by foreign powers, who first tried to work with MILF in setting up a substate but due to the patient unconstitutionality of the move her efforts were thwarted by the Supreme Court.
But with the high tribunal under intense fire from the Aquino administration it is difficult to ascertain whether it would again foil the administration’s attempt to setup a MILF substate or remain firm in defending the country’s sovereignty.

My sympathy goes to my high school seatmate Mario Flores and his family. His loving father, Antonio Flores, joined our creator this week. His remains lie in state at the Holy Family Chapel, Mt. Carmel Church, New Manila, Quezon City.
Rest assured that my family and I will pray for the repose of your father’s soul in God’s bosom.
