Watson claims first major title
THE most creative shot-maker in golf pulled off another one from his bag of tricks on Sunday (Monday in the Philippines).
From out of nowhere – literally – Bubba Watson hit a gap wedge that somehow found the green in the second playoff hole, setting up a simple two-putt par to win the Masters for his first major title.
“I had no idea where he was,” said his playoff rival Louis Oosthuizen. “Where I stood from, when the ball came out, it looked like a curve ball. Unbelievable shot. That shot he hit definitely won him the tournament.”
Watson has always been known for his creativity and made good use of his uncanny talent in the biggest moment of his golfing career.
“I got in these trees and hit a crazy shot that I saw in my head, and somehow I’m here talking to you with a green jacket on,” Watson said.
He shot a final round 68 to move 10-under par for the tournament, the same total of Oosthuizen who led most of the day after holing a rare double-eagle in the par-5 second hole. Noli Cruz
