MILF, MNLF peace negotiators to share experience in Davao City forum

FORMER and current peace negotiators of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) will hold  an informal conference today in Davao City .

Dubbed as “Sharing of Experiences and How to Move Forward” the meeting is a follow-up of the series of fraternal meeting in the past with the aim in view of  finding consensus points wherein to build on in promoting the higher interests of the Bangsamoro people. .

Jun Mantawil, head of the MILF Peace Panel Secretariat, was quoted as saying “Nothing formal is to be agreed by the two parties except perhaps a meeting of the mind to work for the higher cause of the Bangsamoro people.”

“Each party will bring back to their respective principal the substance of what will be taken up for further consideration,” he added.

The MILF delegation is composed of Mohagher Iqbal, chair of its peace panel, Atty. Datu Michael Mastura, Maulana Bobby Alonto, Prof. Abhoud Syed Lingga, Abdulla Camlian, Datu Antonio Kinoc, Jun Mantawil, Mike Pasigan, and Muhajirin Ali, Atty. Raisa Jajurie, a member of the MILF Board of Consultant, is expected to join the group.

The list of the MNLF delegation is not provided according to the MILF official site.

The Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HDC), a member of the International Contact Group of the GPH-MILF Peace Talks, assisted the two parties in making the meeting succeed, after several attempts because of conflicting schedules of the two parties.

David Gorman, mediation advisor of the Center for Humanitarian Dialogue (HDC).agreed to help make this meeting possible after he had conferred with negotiators of the MNLF and the MILF.

Gorman was in Cotabato City Wednesday, May 16, to accompany a Canadian former deputy Minister, Honorable George Anderson, in talks with leaders of the MILF in Darapanan, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao.

Anderson, an expert on federalism especially on wealth-sharing, shared his expertise with the MILF leaders for several hours. In the evening, he had a dinner in Cotabato City with some specially invited guests.
