Djokovic, Federer survive scare in French Open
WORLD’S top-ranked tennis player Novak Djokovic survived a scare in the fourth round of the French Open, rallying from two sets down to defeat Andreas Seppi of Italy, 4-6, 6-7 (5), 6-3, 7-5, 6-3.
Roger Federer also got off on a wrong foot in his match opposite David Goffin of Belgium, a player beaten in qualifying who got to make his Grand Slam debut only because someone else withdrew.
Federer eventually prevailed, 5-7, 7-5, 6-2, 6-4.
He gave Goffin a tap on the head and a pat on the backside when they were done playing, then hugging him at the crowd’s request during an on-court interview.
Women’s top seed and Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka failed to dodge the axe, losing to No. 15 Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia 6-2, 7-6 (4). Noli S. Cruz
