Farm workers troop to PNoy’s residence in QC
AROUND 70 placard-bearing militants and Luisita farm workers troop to the Cojuangco-Aquino Times St. residence in Quezon City calling for the president and his relatives to stop meddling and maneuvers on the Hacienda Luisita case.
“The president should end his shameless and desperate campaign to regain control of Hacienda Luisita. If he really wants to come clean and serious of handing lands to the farmers then he should start in his own backyard. We double dare him not to screw the Hacienda Luisita decision” said Rodel Mesa, UMA Secretary General
The group said that the SC decision penned final and executory last April 24 on the high court’s Bagiuo session was in fact have many loose ends that gave way for the Cojuangco-Aquinos to explore. One such major issue left open was the valuation of land that led to a P10B compensation appraisal per hectare.
“If Aquino had spare time to meet with other farm beneficiaries then he has no reason why he can’t face his family’s former tenants and assure them that he will throw in the towel and give up claims on the controversial land case involving his own clan” the UMA leader said
The militant farm worker organizations today will also meet with officials of the Department of Agrarian Reform to discuss major unsettled issues surrounding the implementation of land distribution of Hacienda Luisita.
“We demand that the DAR should be transparent to answer the inquiries of the farm worker beneficiaries of Hacienda Luisita especially on the three major issues that we want to settle with them. Rather than going in circle, they should make an honest to goodness answers”.
Representatives from UMA and AMBALA demand updates on the revocation order which they filed last January, the cease and desist order against RCBC and the question of the ongoing enlistment process of the DAR.
The group at the same time stage picket-protest outside the department’s main gate slamming the DAR’s foot dragging on the distribution process.
