Gov’t should support for Filipino classics – Solon
AT THE presentation of the Ballet Philippines of Crisostomo Ibarra at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), Bayan Muna Rep. Teddy Casiño said that we should bring to life more Filipino classics.
He added that in these times characters like Crisostomo Ibarra are more relevant to introduce genuine change in government. It is indeed great that Rizal’s legacy were revived using song and dance. I hope that productions like these which are designed for the Filipino consciousness will proliferate.
“The government should extend more support for these types of cultural initiatives in terms of regional and international tours, media exposure and financial support rather than foreign productions like Cats, Mama mia and others at the CCP because the Pinoy shows are bumped off in favour of paying foreign gigs,” the progressive lawmaker said.
“Wala naman akong problema sa mga foreign acts and productions pero dapat ay mas binibigyang prayoridad ang sariling atin para mas tumaas din ang kamalayan at nasyonalismo ng mga kabataang Pinoy sa ngayon,” he clarified.
Casiño is a Rizal fan and even participated at the Instituto Cervantes initiated sabayang pagbigkas of the Mi Ultimo Adios during the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of Jose Rizal’s birth last year. For this year this is his way of pushing for his advocacy during the 151th anniversary of the birth of the national hero.
