Military men gang up on a Quezon local
QUEZON – Members of the 74th IBPA and Corporal Casiano of the 59th IBPA attacked Eduardo dela Peña, a farmer from Sitio Sabang, Brgy. Pagsangahan, San Fransisco, Quezon, while he was tending on the fields at morning on June 22.
The assailants accused dela Peña of being a member of the New People’s Army because he has the same name as the person who is said to be a member of the NPA.
Dela Peña was punched three times at the side, according to the initial accounts provided by Karapatan-Quezon.
Due to fear, he and his wife and 2 children fled their house while his children have to stay temporarily with their neighbors since they are studying in the locality.
The victims are now under custody of KARAPATAN-Quezon and are set to file charges against the military tomorrow.
“This is exactly the same reason why the people from Quezon and other part of Southern Tagalog together with different concerned individuals and organizations will be launching an 8-day Mercy Mission and Peace Caravan in South Quezon and Bondoc Peninsula,” Orly Marcellana, spokesperson of Save Bondoc Peninsula movement stated.
“People of Quezon are in fear brought by no less than 8-batallions of military, police and para-military troops. From January 2011, Karapatan already documented at least 127 victims of human rights violations perpetrated by the military in the province, and today’s incident proved that it is still counting” Marcellana added.
According to the group, the Mercy Mission and Peace Caravan will bring immediate relief to the people of third and fourth District of Quezon through medical services, distribution of food packages and psychosocial first aid to the children.
The Peace Caravan will start tomorrow, June 25 and will end on July 2.
