Party-List urges Palace to name Dolphy the ‘National Artist Award’
CHILD welfare party-list group, Akap Bata Party-List today joins the nation in expressing support and praying for the speedy recovery of the Philippine Cinema’s King of Comedy after being under critical condition at the Makati Medical Center.
The group said that the antics and humour of Rodolfo Vera ‘Dolphy ‘Quizon, Sr. will not be forgotten as he brought laughter to every Filipinos, young and old for many generations now.
Amid the present health condition of Dolphy, Akap Bata Party-List urges the administration of President Benigno Simeon Aquino III, especially the leadership of the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA) to name and grant him the National Artist Awards that has long been denied him.
It can be recalled that since the Arroyo administration, Dolphy failed to make it to the list of the country’s National Artist. In 2010, only the Grand Collar of the Order of the Golden Heart has been awarded to him.
‘To further pay proper tribute to the King of Comedy and for the children of today and of tomorrow to get to know the achievements of Dolphy as a Filipino artist, the Palace must immediately name him as a National Artist before it will be too late,’ says Arlene Brosas, national secretary-general of Akap Bata Party-List.
Brosas added, ‘The Grand Collar of the Order of the Golden Heart Award given to Dolphy by PNoy in 2010 will never be enough to honor his almost 65 years as a Filipino artist. Dolphy deserves nothing but to be recognized as a National Artist. The government must not waste a single second to grant Dolphy the award he truly deserves especially in this crucial period.’
She stresses, ‘More than an artist, Dolphy is also known to be an advocate of children and youth as he created the Dolphy Aid Foundation that awarded scholarships to less-fortunate students. This advocacy of Dolphy for children must be emulated by Filipino artists.’
Finally, Akap Bata Party-List further calls on the Filipino people to also pray for the Comedy King of Philippine Cinema.
