Pia: House bill on breastfeeding reverses Cory’s Milk Code
SENATOR Pia Cayetano on Tuesday slammed a draft consolidated bill pending at the Lower House which seeks to water down the Expanded Breastfeeding Act and the Milk Code signed by former President Corazon Aquino.
“It’s terrible. That bill in Lower House [which] seeks to reverse [the] benefits in Expanded Breastfeeding Law [RA 10028] I sponsored” Pia said.
“Many don’t understand what they are endorsing.”
She explained that under the draft consolidated House bill on Expanded Breastfeeding Act (RA10028) and Milk Code under Executive Order No. 51 signed on October 26, 1986 by then President Aquino, it will definitely kill the purposes and intent of the measure.
“It’s an insult to women to pass a bill withdrawing benefits previously accorded breastfeeding mothers. This is outrageous,” she said.
“[The bill] won’t pass my committee. Without my endorsement, it’s dead,” Pia said.
