FAMAS to award Comedy King Dolphy
THE Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences, (FAMAS) Inc . is set to award Comedy King Dolphy with a posthumous award on its 60th Gabi ng Parangal Annual Awards for its Diamond Jubilee slated at Manila Hotel on Sept. 25.
FAMAS president Angelo Eloy Padua made the announcement following the finalization of activities for the special and momentous affair.
The FAMAS president said that the award will be given to Dolphy, (Rodolfo Vera Quizon, Sr. in real life) in honor of his great contribution to the field of arts notably the Philippine cinema, television and the like.
Other special awards will be announced for the momentous event to be emceed by surprise luminaries.
Padua noted that the FAMAS, which is counterpart of Hollywood’s Oscar awards, had previously cited Dolphy during its 58th annual awards om December, 2010 with the Exemplary Performance Award for his extra ordinary achievements as a comedian and actor .
He also said FAMAS is fully supporting the proclamation of Dolphy as National Artist, although it may be late .
The Comedy King also emerged as the FAMAS Best Actor in 1977 with the movie, Omeng Satanasia which he produced himself.
He said that Dolphy is a quintessential comedian and actor , a national treasure, pointing out he is simply a legend for all time after leaving a mark in Philippine cinema and television with his one of a kind laughter and humor that epitomizes the aspirations and hope of the Filipino people.
Dolphy’s humor has healed the heartaches and burdens of local folks with a big smile.
Napasigla ni Dolphy ang pelikulang Pilipino at napasaya niya ang ating kamalayan na tiyak na hindi magmamaliw, Padua said.
The FAMAS president also conveyed the oldest and premier award giving body’s sincerest condolences to Dolphy’s life partner Zsa Zsa Padilla, children Eric , Vandolp and the rest of the Quizon family.
