“You cannot have an assurance because she has to go through the JBC interview, screening. Remember, the President—and some of you were with the President in London, the President mentioned that he has not spoken with Secretary Leila de Lima. So I think that was an opportunity for them, brief opportunity for them, to talk about it. But certainly ang sinabi lang ni Pangulo is ‘kung ano ang desisyon mo, rerespetuhin ko.’ And so there is no assurance here. We are going through, rather, Secretary Leila de Lima is going through the process of being screened by the Judicial and Bar Council as <with> any other nominee,” anito.
Obviously the statement of Secretary Leila de Lima was that she is going to take up the challenge and so she is willing to be examined by her peers and there was no approval from the President. The President just told Secretary De Lima that he will respect whatever decision that she will make,” ani Lacierda.
“There’s no such thing as disobedience there because obviously there was a nomination process. And I think a lawyer—this has always been a common statement of any lawyer—one of the dreams of a lawyer is to be a Chief Justice for any lawyer. There are very few who would not want to be Chief Justice, myself included, but it’s an honor to be nominated as Chief Justice,” ang pahayag ni Sec. Lacierda.
“I don’t know how you could say adding insult to injury. She was not a main player in the impeachment trial. She was just one of the witnesses also cross-examined by the defense. So it’s not a… Well, Ferdie would like to say his piece and so we will leave it at that. But certainly it has still… She <still has> to go through the process of screening. So let’s wait for that,” ang pahayag ni Sec. Lacierda.
