Remate sportswriter 3rd place in the PSA Shooting C’ships
SPORTSWRITER Elech Dawa of Remate bagged third place in the second edition of the PSA Shooting Championships-Sen. Chiz Escudero Cup at the Armscor Shooting Range at the Makati Cinema Square.
Dawa fired 94 points, 5 pts. behind back-to-back champion Abac Cordero and 1 pt. behind second placer Musong Castillo of Philippine Daily Inquirer.
Cordero failed to duplicate his perfect score of 100 during last year’s inaugural staging of the shootfest for members and officials of the country’s oldest media organization. But he still got the job done, nonetheless, when he scored 99 points and beat out Castillo (95) and Dawa.
In the distaff side, sports editor Virgie Romano of Abante finished with 76 points to beat last year’s queen Kristel Satumbaga of Bulletin/Tempo.
Satumbaga placed third this time with a 65 behind second placer Jasmine Payo of the Inquirer, who had 66.
Meanwhile, all PSA members attended the 30-minute refresher course conducted by Sen. Escudero himself, with assistance from officials of Armscor.
An avid sport shooting proponent, Escudero personally handed out the prizes to the winners during the lunch and program that followed the tournament.
The shootfest, presented by Senator Escudero, has the Philippine Basketball Association, myPhone, Adidas Action 3, and Harbour Centre as major sponsors.
Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman Ritchie Garcia and the Basketball Efficiency and Scientific Training Center (Best Center) of former national coach Nic Jorge are minor sponsors.
