Youth group defends media from PNoy’s ‘rantings’
THE youth group Anakbayan defended Filipino journalists and media practitioners today from President Benigno Aquino’s accusations of a ‘negative media’ saying the president ‘is missing the point’.
“From our point of view, the media has been generally generous to the Aquino administration up to now. We believe this is due to the idea of ‘giving someone a chance to prove one’s self’. If a lot of negative news still comes out, it is no longer the fault of media” said Vencer Crisostomo, national chairperson of Anakbayan.
“Before criticizing media, President Aquino should look in the mirror. He can’t make journalists and media practitioners fabricate stories just to make his administration look good” he said.
He added “like street protests and rallies, negative news stories are merely symptoms of the problem, and not the problem itself. If Aquino was really doing his job, then such protests and stories would have no basis and simply disappear”.
Crisostomo called on journalists and media practitioners to brace themselves for more baseless attacks from the president in light of recent news such as his free-falling approval rating, and the release from custody of ex-president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
“For sure, he will blame the media for putting him in a bad light, the survey firm for releasing such a survey, and everyone else but him,” he said.
