Farmers demand zero-budget for CARPER
AS Congress deliberates the proposed P21.038-billion budget of the Dept. of Agrarian Reform (DAR) for 2013, farmers and peasant advocates from Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) and Anakpawis Partylist will picket outside the House of Representatives.
The groups will demand zero-budget for the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program Extension with Reforms (CARPER) – the longest-running and most expensive land reform program in the country.
Farmers said they reject the P1.4-B budget for Land Acquisition and Distribution and P12.9-B budget for the requirements of CARP, saying DAR’s multibillion budget will only become a milking cow of landlords and a source of corruption under the Aquino administration.
