Groups launch film festival to pay tribute to Dolphy
THE 4th Pandayang Lino Brocka Political Film and New Media Festival being held in the University of the Philippines today, child welfare group, Akap Bata Party-List and Tudla Productions will hold a special film screening of a classic Lino Brocka film, ‘Ang Tatay kong Nanay.’
The said film, which stars the late Dolphy Quizon and former child star Nino Muhlach focuses on the struggle of a homosexual to raise a child.
The special film screening is Akap Bata Party-List’s way in paying tribute to Tito Dolphy as they also reiterate their call for President Benigno Simeon Aquino III to posthumously award Dolphy the National Artist Awards.
Before the start of the screening, a short program will be held inside the UP Film Institute.
The 4th Pandayang Lino Brocka Political Film and New Media Festival will last until Friday in the University of the Philippines and will be toured in various communities all over Metro Manila.
It further aims to inspire the creation and popularization of truthful, artistic and relevant audio-visual works to enlighten and cultivate critical consciousness of the mass audience. Brocka is also given a posthumous distinction of National Artist for Film in 1997.
