Agri official underscores significant roles of AEWs
DEPARTMENT of Agriculture 12 Regional Executive Director Amalia J. Datukan has extolled the agricultural extension workers (AEWs) in North Cotabato province underlining their noteworthy contributions in achieving agricultural development in the country.
“Our AEWs are the partners of our farmers in providing food to every Filipino, that’s why it is now high time to acknowledge them for their noble task,” Dir Datukan said during the AEW Day on August 31 at Provincial Capitol Pavilion, Amas, Kidapawan City.
AEW Day was one of the highlights on the celebration of the 98thFoundation Anniversary of North Cotabato.
Dir. Datukan also mentioned, “DA, along with our attached agencies is constantly holding capacity building activities designed as a supplementary to the skills and expertise of our AEWs.”
According to her, some AEWs already received their performance incentives for this quarter.
As part of her speech, Dir Datukan revealed that Region 12 will have a total budget of 1.2 billion pesos by 2013. “Unang-una po tayo sa buong Mindanao na inaprobahan ‘yung budget,” she added.
“Ganito kalaki ang budget natin for 2013 because Region 12 is one of the best performing regions in the Philippines,” she said.
Besides the AEWs, Dir Datukan also recognized the provincial government of North Cotabato through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist for having the most number of Gawad Saka regional winners.
Of the 12 regional winners from North Cotabato, eight entries were already named as national finalists. Field validations of these categories were done last July and August.
With their unrelenting support to DA, Datukan recognized the local chief executives in the province for their complementation with the regional office in carrying out agricultural interventions in their respective local government units (LGUs).
