NPC condemns the brutal murder of Cotabato broadcast journalist

THE National Press Club of the Philippines has called on authorities to act with dispatch in solving the murder of broadcast journalist Eddie Apostol in Cotabato province, the latest addition to the growing list of slain journalists during the time of President Benigno Aquino

“We say time and again that for as long as these killings remain unabated by sending media killers behind bars, no journalist is safe. The government must stop paying lip service and treat the solution of these murders as among its top priorities. We demand no less,” said
NPC acting president Marlon Purificacion.

With hands bound, the decomposing body of Apostol who worked for DXND in Mindanao, was found in a marsh last Sunday. He bore two gunshot wounds to the head.

“This incident reminds us of the cruelty suffered by the victims of the Maguindanao massacre almost three years ago from the hands of the most evil persons ever known to us. The death of Mr. Apostol is an affront to press freedom. Investigators must leave no stone unturned in their probe and those behind the gruesome crime must be punished
regardless of their political or social standing,” Purificacion stressed.
