Pres. Aquino cites FAMAS
PRESIDENT Benigno S. Aquino III has cited the vital role of the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences Inc, (FAMAS), in the Philippine movie industry’s “revitalization for a more enlightened and dynamic film community in the coming years.”
In his message to the FAMAS’s 60th Annual Awards night, the President commended the FAMAS’ “continued championing of quality productions, and elevating the consciousness of the moviegoing public”.
The FAMAS Gabi ng Parangal” annual awards night is to be held tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 25 at the Manila Hotel.
Citing the FAMAS as “an institution of the Filipino cinema” being the oldest and most prestigious award giving body equivalent to Hollywood’s Oscars, Aquino also noted the exciting times for the film industry wherein “a new breed of filmmakers is making waves abroad bringing our stories to a cosmopolitan audience as the nation begins to reestablish itself as a vibrant location for major global productions.”
“Together let us continue to craft our shared vision of a better Philippines, “ the President said.
For his part, presidential communications operations office chief Sonny Coloma said the Aquino administration recognizes the cinema as one important catalyst for national development and a strong partner of government in addressing the problems of our country and people.
“It has the power to unite and encourage our people to work together towards attaining national goals,” Coloma said.
Angelo Eloy Padua is president of FAMAS while Angel Calso is the FAMAS awards night executive producer.
Hosts for the FAMAS night are Carla Abellana, Iya Villania, KC Montero, ang RJ Ledesma.
Special awardees for the FAMAS Diamond jubilee are:Famas Posthumous award, the late DILG secretary Jesse Robredo,FAMAs Grand Award, Sam Low of Edmark; Exemplary Achievement Award in the filed of justice,Chief Public Attorney Persida V. Rueda Acosta ,Famas Public Service Award, Gov. Jeorge ER Ejercito; Huwarang Artista sa Larangan ng Serbisyo Publiko – Alfred Vargas, Q.C. Councilor, District 2; Ricky Lo, Dr. Jose Perez Memorial Award, and Arturo M. Padua Memorial Award.
Four outstanding Lady Producers will also be honored,namely:Regal Films’ Mother Lily Monteverde; GMA 7 Films Atty. Annette Gozon Abrogar, ABS CBN Star Cinema’s Malou Santos and Golden Lions Films’ Donna Villa.
Also, FAMAS is to fete this year’s German Moreno Achievement awardees: GMA 7—Julie Anne San Jose, Derrick Monasterio, Kristoffer Martin; ABS CBN- Enrique Gil, Daniel Padilla, Jessy Mendiola; and TV5- Edgar Allan Guzman.
