Probe must go on in controversial arms deal
ZAMBALES Rep. Mitos Magsaysay said that if the administration has any chance of making people believe its conviction behind its Daang Matuwid slogan, then it should allow the House probe on the controversial P1 billion arms deal entered into by the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Rep. Magsaysay, who reiterated her statement over the weekend about the administration’s bias in favor of President Aquino’s personal friends said that the truth should come out and a thorough investigation into the deal is the only way to do it.
“We are seeing cracks in the administration’s pristine image. While its anti corruption drive is laudable, it is not perfect. The only thing that they can do right now is to prove to the people that the drive is not exclusive to the opposition, that they are willing to hold accountable erring officials even if it happens to be their allies.”
“If this administration truly wanted to eliminate corruption in government, then it must be open to letting the wheels of justice turn. What are they afraid of? The investigation must continue because I believe that this arms deal is only the tip of the iceberg. The people are entitled to know how their taxes are being spent and it is not right to deprive them of this opportunity.”
