1st Regional Pet Show stages lovely, talented animals

ANIMAL pet lovers in the region have met to showcase their lovely and talented animals in the first Region 12 Pet Show over the weekend, October 6-7 at Robinson’s Mall in General Santos City.

The pet show was the highlight of the celebration of the 8th Animal Welfare Week with its theme: Animal Welfare: Taking the Next Step in Strengthening an Animal- Friendly Community.

Leading the event was the Department of Agriculture 12 through its Agri Pinoy Livestock Program, Regional Animal Welfare Office and Licensing Section as well as the Bureau of Animal Industry.

Dr. John B. Pascual, DA 12 Livestock Program Coordinator said, this event will show off talented and lovely animals that will definitely fascinate the spectators.

“Today, our animal pets are the stars of the show,” Pascual said inculcating to the minds of the audience to be responsible pet owners.

He also looked forward for the staging of the next pet show next year hoping that it would be more exciting and a bigger number of animals and pet lovers will join.
Pascual also extended the appreciation of DA 12 Regional Executive Director Amalia J. Datukan for the realization of this event saying “DA doesn’t only focus in farming but it also promotes the welfare of animals headed by its Livestock Program.

Highlights of the pet show were Dog Conformation Show, Dog Obedience Trial and Dog Agility Competition which mesmerized the viewing public.

Also, pet handlers also showcased their dogs dressed up with stylish outfits on the Pet Fashion Show.

Besides dogs, other animals like cats, snakes, aquarium fishes and even different breeds of spider also took the center stage.

Winning dogs and animal pet owners received plaques, ribbons and animal feeds as their prizes.
