3 marines, 2 ASG’s killed in Sulu encounter
THREE marine troopers and two Islamic militants were killed as government troops clash with unknown number of Abu Sayyaf (ASG) members early Sunday in a remote village in Sulu province, military reports said.
Reports reaching Camp Aguinaldo, the military general headquarters in Manila, said the encounter between marine troops and ASG bandits took place at around 6:30am at the vicinity of Brgy. Bakong in Patikul, Sulu.
Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) spokesman, Lt. Colonel Randolph Cabangbang, said that a company of troops from the Marine Battalion Landing Team 6, were on patrol in the area when the encounter took place.
“The marine company was conducting patrol to verify reports of presence kidnap victims in the area,” Cabangbang said who declined to named the slain marine troopers pending notification of their next of kin.
Cabangbang said that the encounter resulted into the death of three marine troopersand wounding of ten others while two men on the enemy side were also killed, one of them identified as “Kaisar”.
Westmincom chief, Major General Rey Ardo, immediately ordered the dispatch of air and naval assets in the area to support troops now engaged with ASG members under Radullan Sahiron.
Ardo also ordered that the bodies of marine troopers killed encounter with the ASG must be recovered and the wounded ones must be brought to the nearest medical facility in Sulu province.
