Casiño: SC TRO vs Cybercrime law opens initiatives for its repeal

MAKABAYAN senatorial bet Teddy Casiño today said that the Supreme Court temporary restraining order (TRO) against the Cybercrime law will give us more time now to repeal the law or at the very least amend its repressive provisions.

“House Bill 6613 which we filed will effectively repeal the Cybercrime law. Our bill will reinstitute the constitutional freedoms of the press and expression and the relative freedom of publication utilized by online critics of government policies will be returned,” said the progressive solon.

“I am calling on the chair of the Committee on Information Technology to immediately set a public hearing for our bill before Congress again goes on recess. I am also enjoining my colleagues to co-author our bill so that it can be expedited. They should heed the call of the majority of their constituents,” he added.

“The final measure if we succeeded against this draconian law is if it is completely repealed. So we must not let our guard down and continue to be vigilant,” said Casiño.
