Casiño slams AO 31; calls for efficiency instead of hike
MAKABAYAN senatorial bet Teddy Casiño today urged the Aquino administration to push government agencies and GOCCs to rationalize their operations and expenses instead of their fees and charges.
“Government should first strive for efficiency, show the taxpayers that their money is put to good use, before calling for additional or increased fees,” said the progressive lawmaker in response to Administrative Order 31 issued by Malacanang this month.
Casiño added that browsing through the Commission on Audit reports alone would show that there are a lot of things that our government agencies could fix and address.
“In fact, what about the recent COA report that government lost P101 billion in the last years to corruption, inefficiencies and irregular expenses?,” he asked.
AO 31 is directing the heads of all departments, bureaus, commissions, agencies, offices, and instrumentalities of the national government, including GOCCs when allowed by their charters, are directed and authorized to rationalize the rates of their existing fees and charges, and if found necessary, increase such rates and impose new fees and charges.
This should have been consulted first with the public and not just unilaterally been imposed,” said the progressive solon.
