Casiño to file 15th petition vs Cybercrime
JUST in time for the Supreme Court en banc session tomorrow Makabayan senatorial bet Teddy Casiño together with the Philippine Internet Freedom Association (PIFA) filed the 15th petition against the Cybercrime law this afternoon at the Supreme Court.
The progressive solon filed the petition on his capacity as a blogger and a regular internet user.
He is a website user/owner (myteddycasino.com), blogger (teddycasino.wordpress.com) and social media account (facebook.com/followteddycasino, and twitter @teddycasino. He is also one of the most followed members of the House of Representatives in Twitter.
Casiño with representatives of PIFA filed the 61 page petition asking for a Status Quo Ante Order and/or a writ of Preliminary Injunction be issued against the respondents, commanding respondents to desist from implementing the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10175) and to nullify the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10175) for being in contravention of the 1987 Constitution and therefor unconstitutional.
The solon earlier said that imposing libel on the internet, particularly social media like Twitter and Facebook, is like imposing libel on ordinary conversations.
Libel, if it is to be applied to social media at all, should have different parameters. Problem is, dahil isiningit lang ang probisyon, hindi ito masusing napag-usapan, he said.
