Enrile rejects UN proposal to legalize prostitution
SENATE President Juan Ponce Enrile rejected the United Nations’ proposal to legalize prostitution in the country to help curb the spread of sexually-transmitted diseases.
“I will not (support it). But to say offhand that I am in favor of it, I will not. I have to be convinced,” Enrile said.
Enrile said the country should not immediately follow what the UN wants in countries like the Philippines if other nations obeyed them in their dictations.
He also added that due to the complexities of prostitution covering other issues, the country need not have a law to legalize the oldest profession.
There are many complexities about it. But, we are willing to listen to the arguments,” he said.
