Enrile wants closure, national documentation on Martial Law
SENATE President Juan Ponce Enrile on Sunday said he wanted to have closure through a national documentation on the issues that continues to hound the country on Martial law including his alleged ambush before the proclamation of General Order No. 1081.
“Mabuti na lamang ganoon, kaysa pinagdedebatehan natin, endless debate, let us start a national documentation of this whole thing, pati ang ambush sa akin. Para sa ganun ay magkaroon ng closure ang isyung ito, sapagkat kanya-kanya ng version ang martial law,” he said in an interview on Sunday.
He said the independent commission to be created by President Bengino Aquino III tasked to investigate all the issues that surrounds the declaration of Martial law, should have the power to subpoena people and documents.
“Ngayon kung gusto nila, magkaroon ng imbestigasyon. I will submit myself to be investigated kaya sinasabi ko noon na sang-ayon ako sa panawagan ng Presidente o kanyang plano na magbuo ng isang independent commission with full powers to subpoena any persona and documents, to punish persons with contempt kapag hindi sila sumunod para maimbestiga ang rehimen ni Presidente Marcos.
“I am ready to be investigated, hindi ako nagsisinungaling, I have all the records about all these things. Kung may kasalanan ako, tatanggapin ko, pati ang ambush ko, sabi nila ginawa ko iyon,” he said.
However, Enrile said if he will be investigated on Martial Law, the commission should also summons all members of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) including present leaders of the left wing.
“Specially on the martial law period, kailangan din ang mga nasa kaliwa, members of the Communist Party and New People’s Army, humarap sila, ako haharap din with the right to cross examination, they can cross examine me,” he explained.
“Lahat ng disappearances, na sinabi nila lahat ng tinorture, isa-isahin iyon, hindi puwedeng generalization. I know it because I have all the records with me, year by year,” he added.
Recently, Enrile launched his book entitled: Juan Ponce Enrile: A Memoirs which critics said it is a revisionist version of the real ewvents that transpired before and after the declaration of Martial law including the regime of Marcos that resulted to his ouster during the EDSA People Power Revolution which also led by him (Enrile).
“Kaya nga dapat magkaroon ng records, we will get all the testimonies of everyone who is talking.
Enrile also said that he will give details on all events on Martial law, including disappearances, the Plaza Miranda bombing, the creation of National Democratic Front (NDF), and others events with historical significance during the Marcos dictatorship.
“Okey, bakit iyong Plaza Miranda, pinatay nila si Danny Cordero, ano ang dahilan, ano ang MV Karagatan, ano ang pambobomba sa Cabugao, Ilocos Sur, ano ang commune sa UP, ano ang transporation strike magmula sa Magallanes hanggang Los Banos, magmula sa Los Banos, hanggan sa Sta Cruz, ano un,” he said.
“Saka iyon namatay na sundalo, inambus nila, pati pinasabog nilang dinamita, iyon ba gawa-gawa iyon. Pagtatayo ba ng NDF, parang piknik, pagbubuo ng CCP, agawin ang kapangyarihan ng Papa, iyong New People’s Army (NPA),” he added.
