First batch of LFTs receives performance incentive
PAINTED smiles on their faces conveyed the happiness of 36 local farmer-technicians (LFTs) of the region after receiving their performance incentive package from the Department of Agriculture Region 12 last Friday.
These LFTs from the provinces of Sultan Kudarat, South Cotabato and Sarangani constitute the first batch of LFTs who received P9,000 each.
As LFTs, they are entitled to get P 3,000 performance incentive package per month which is given every quarter.
At present, Region 12 has a total of 96 LFTs where 76 of them who represent the first and second batches of LFTs have been performing their duty.
The remaining 20 LFTs, who have just completed a series of trainings as a preparatory part before they will be deployed to their respective areas, are set to do their responsibility this month.
Performing like agricultural extension workers, these LFTs, through farmers’ field school (FFS) will teach their co-farmers regarding new farming technologies.
DA 12 Regional Executive Director Amalia J. Datukan said, tapping and training farmers to be LFTs is an innovation of the department to ensure higher rice productivity in the country.
“They also serve as the active partners of the DA and the Local Government Units (LGUs) in promoting and disseminating modern technologies in rice production to their fellow farmers,” Dir. Datukan added.
Being an LFT, Datukan said, is a good avenue for farmers because they are sharing their knowledge to their co-farmers while receiving incentives for themselves from rendering their expertise and services to their intended clients.
Ms. Amie C. Palomaria, one of the LFTs assigned in Norala, South Cotabato, expressed her gratitude to the regional office for giving them the opportunity in assisting their co-farmers achieve higher rice production at the same time earning additional income for their families.
Releasing of the incentives was done at the DA Conference Hall in Koronadal City.
