Framework Agreement a step forward in the GPH-MILF peace negotiation – MCPA

WITH guarded optimism, the Moro-Christian People’s Alliance (MCPA) views the Framework Agreement as a positive step forward in the GPH-MILF peace negotiation.  It is a concrete document that the MILF may invoke in the succeeding stages of the peace negotiations after 16 years of intense and often times highly-charged peace talks.

The Framework Agreement which is scheduled to be signed on 16 October 2012 in Manila is NOT yet the final GPH-MILF Peace Agreement. The Framework Agreement is a preliminary Agreement that sets the principles, concepts and direction of the still to be crafted final GPH-MILF Peace Agreement.

The Aquino administration’s public relations-oriented statements tend to create the illusion that a centuries-old conflict is finally resolved.  It creates the illusion and concocts false hopes in the public minds that peace is finally achieved, MCPA said in a statement.

President Aquino’s sincerity in forging a just and lasting peace agreement with the Moro people will be put to a hard test when the GPH-MILF peace negotiating panels go into the details of the Final Peace Agreement soon after the Framework Agreement has been signed on 16 October 2012, MCPA said.

In this light, the interfaith network calls on the Filipino and Moro people to be vigilant and discern the real status and progress of the GPH-MILF peace negotiations. The MCPA calls on the MILF to remain steadfast in its painstaking assertion and firm stand on the Moro people’s inherent, non-negotiable right to self-determination in the negotiating table, MCPA said.
