House adopts infra project measure to boost dev’t in Southern Tagalog region
THE House of Representatives has adopted a measure recognizing the importance of the completion of the Sto.Tomas-Lucena Project to boost the development of the Southern Tagalog provinces.
House Resolution 951 also urged the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC), Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to enter into an arrangement with the South Luzon Tollway Corp. (SLTC) to finish the Sto.Tomas-Lucena Project.
During a recent meeting of the House Special Committee on Southern Tagalog Development chaired by Rep. Isidro Rodriguez Jr. (2nd District, Rizal), Gil Talingdan II of SLTC briefed the committee members on the status of the SLEX Upgrading and Rehabilitation Project.
Talingdan said Phase 2 of the SLEX Upgrading and Rehabilitation Project, specifically the Sto.Tomas-Lucena Project, will start soon.
Rodriguez said it would take 6 months to accomplish the parcellary and topographic surveys and another 6 months for the final engineering design.
“The most difficult part of the project would be the right-of-way (ROW) acquisition as the roadway will pass through many subdivisions, and that SLTC has no control over it,” Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez reiterated the importance of the completion of the project in the development of the Southern Tagalog area brought about by faster travel time, improved access of the area to essential services and to global markets, increasing its economic and market potentials, among others.
