Kontra Daya hails disqualification of Palparan party list, other bogus PL groups

ELECTION watchdog Kontra Daya welcomed the disqualification of twelve more bogus party lists including The True Marcos Loyalist For God, Country & People Association of the Phil., Inc. (BANTAY) led by Evangeline Palparan, spouse of Gen. Jovito Palparan.

The group also welcomed the disqualification of the other party lists which are either creation of powerful political clans or with nominees who do not belong to the marginalized sectors.

Fr. Joe Dizon, Kontra Daya spokesperson said that in the same light that Comelec disqualified Bantay, it should also resolutely disqualify ANAD and Abang-Lingkod.

“As can be gleaned from our Omnibus complaint filed at the Comelec, Abang Lingkod is not a party-list representing the farmers. Its founders, nominees and members are not farmers. This is a blatant violation of the party-lists laws. Its first nominee Joseph Stephen Paduano aka Carapali Lualhati, the national commander of the Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade. Paduano and his group have been accused of being guns for hire by landlords of Negros and of human rights violations of farmers in the province of Negros,” said the activist priest.

“Based on the same complaint, the Alliance for Nationalism and Democracy (ANAD) does not represent any marginalized and underrepresented sector. ANAD is also an adjunct of, and receives funding and support from, the government, specifically the Armed Forces of the Philippines,” he added.

“Given these facts, it is imperative that the Comelec immediately disqualify this bogus party list groups and stop them from making a mockery of the party list system,” ended Dizon.

Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes cited the Ang Bagong Bayani case as a standard in the Commission’s evaluation of partylists. Given this, Kontra Daya is hopeful that  all other bogus partylists –those created by or with nominees from the rich and powerful political clans, and those backed or funded by government—will be eventually disqualified.
