Man shot dead by suspected rebels in Surigao del Norte – PNP
SUSPECTED communist rebels on Tuesday shot dead a fifty-year old man said to be a ‘government asset’ in a remote village in Surigao del Norte, a police report said on Wednesday.
Reports sent to Camp Crame by the Caraga police office identified the shooting victim as Edgardo Aguilar Tadifa, 50 and a resident of Sitio Baliw, Brgy. Payapag, Bacuag, Surigao del Norte.
The report said that the shooting incident took place at around 6am Tuesday just a few meters away from his home in the said village.
The victim had finished feeding the livestock of his parents and was on his way home when his path was blocked by four suspects wearing fatigue uniforms and armed with rifles, the reports said.
The reports said that for no apparent, the suspects shot the victims several times, hitting him in different parts of his body killing him on the spot.
The suspects fled after the shooting while responding policemen recovered from the scene some 14 empty shells of AK-47 rifle, one live ammo each of M-16 and AK-47, the reports said.
The reports said elements of the Bacuag Municipal Police are conducting an investigation for the identification and possible arrest of the suspects.
