NDFP demands release of Mendoza, other NDFP consultants
THE National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) vigorously denounced the arrest of NDFP Consultant Benjamin Mendoza, 61, on 6 October 2012 by elements of the 2nd Infantry Division of the Aquino regime.
Mendoza is among the principal NDFP consultants for the Southern Tagalog region in the GRP/GPH-NDFP peace negotiations. He was arrested together with his wife, Josephine Mendoza, and two other companions.
The Aquino regime has been grossly violating the GRP-NDFP Joint Agreement on Safety and Immunity Guarantees (JASIG) of 1995 which provides safety and immunity guarantees to all participants in the GRP/GPH-NDFP peace negotiations from both Parties, the NDFP said in a statement.
NDFP Consultants arrested during the Aquino regime are Tirso Alcantara, Alan Jazmines, Renante Gamara, and now Benjamin Mendoza. NDFP Consultant Jaime Soledad was rearrested after having been released in July 2011. Furthermore, nine other NDFP Consultants languish in the regime’s prisons in violation of the JASIG.
The NDFP said the Aquino regime is also violating the GRP-NDFP Comprehensive Agreement on Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (CARHRIHL) by filing charges of common crimes against the NDFP consultants and other political prisoners.
This is a gross violation of the Hernandez political offense doctrine which is stipulated in the CARHRIHL (Part III, Respect for Human Rights, Article 6),” the group said in a statement.
The Aquino regime’s numerous violations of human rights and international humanitarian law and its refusal to respect and comply with the JASIG are serious obstacles to the resumption of formal talks between the regime and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines, the.
The NDFP demanded the release of Benjamin Mendoza, his wife and companions. The Aquino regime must comply with the JASIG and CARHRIHL, and release all NDFP consultants and political prisoners.
