PDEA chief Gutierrez, sinibak na hindi pa alam

HINUGOT mula sa pagretiro, ipinanumpa na agad nitong Martes ng hapon si Arturo Cacdac Jr., dating Philippine National Police (PNP) deputy chief for administration bilang bagong Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) chief na kapalit ni Jose Gutierrez Jr.

Habang pinanunumpa si Cacdac saharap ni Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa kahapon, pinasunungalingan naman ni PDEA spokesman Derrick Carreon na ang kanyang boss na si Gutierrez ay nagbitiw na sanhi ng mga napaulat na iregularidad na kanyang kinasasangkutan.

“That report is baseless. In fact, I have just contacted him on his mobile phone. I asked him if he had resigned. He said ‘no’ categorically. That’s why it puzzles me where that report came from,” pahayag ni Carreon.

“I even saw him (yesterday) morning at the PDEA office,” dagdag pa ni Carreon, at idinagdag na hindi niya alam na pinanumpa nap ala si Cacdac bilang kapalit ni Gutierrez.

Huli namang kinumpirma ni Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte ang resignasyon ni Gutierrez at ang pagtatalaga kay Cacdac dakong alas 6:30 p.m., nang iulat ang balita sa mga radio programs.

Wala naman  ibinigay na iba pang detalye si Valte habang ipinaalam ng mga reporters ang tungkol sa pagsibak kay  Gutierrez na hiniling na subakin sa puwesto sanhi ng kontrobersiyang kinasasangkutan nito sa pagsibak sa kanyang deputy na si Undersecretary Carlos Gadapan noong Setyembre 6.

Kinumpirma naman ni Cacdac nito ring nakaraang Martes na pinanumpa na siya bilang bagong PDEA chief.

“I was provided a copy of my appointment [papers] dated October 11,” pahayag nito. He read to reporters from his appointment papers, which said: “Pursuant to provisions of existing law, you are hereby appointed director general of PDEA vice Jose Gutierrez Jr.”
