PNP welcomes MILF commitment of help vs lawless elements in Mindanao

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) on welcomes on Saturday the commitment of support by the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in running after lawless elements in Southern Philippines.

PNP chief, Director General Nicanor Bartolome said the expression of commitment made by MILF under the recently signed framework agreement is a strong gesture of support in law enforcement operations by the PNP.

“It is well taken as a magnanimous gesture of support to law enforcement efforts by the PNP to implement the “all out justice” policy of government against “lawless elements” in Mindanao,” Bartolome said in a statement.

The PNP chief said that with Bartolome said with the commitment made by the MILF, there will no more hindrance for the PNP, which can now go forward in conducting more aggressive police operations against ‘lawless elements’ in Mindanao.

“The PNP can look forward for more aggressive police operations against lawless elements in Mindanao similar to recent operations that led to the capture of two sub-leaders of Abu Sayyaf (ASG) in Mindanao,” Bartolome said.

Police operatives on Tuesday arrested Sali Basal Taib, who is known by the aliases Gonggong Sali and Abu Husni and he was arrested near the Barangay Wal Primary Schol in Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat.

Bartolome said Taib, who carries a P3.3 million reward for his capture,  is wanted for his involvement in the kidnapping of 10 workers of the Golden Harvest Plantation in Lantawan, Basilan in 2001.

In another separate law enforcement operation on last Wednesday, police captured Abdula Alad alias Abdulla Magdal, Salip Abdullah anad Aduwa Salip in Brgy. Malamawi, Isabela City, Basilan.

Alad, who has a P2million for his capture, is wanted for his involvement in the kidnapping of American missionary couple and his was suspected to be involved in the kidnapping of a female Filipino journalists.

The PNP considers the ASG, Jemaah Islamiyah, and the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Movement (BIFM), a breakaway faction of the MILF, as lawless elements and are subject to relentless law enforcement operations.

“Consistent with our commitment to support all initiatives for peace, the PNP will act decisively against any group that wish to sabotage or derail this peace agreement with the MILF,” Bartolome said
