2 rebels killed in ComVal encounter
TWO suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels were killed following an encounter with government patrols in a mountain village in Campostela Valley, early dawn Friday, military reports said.
Initial reports at the Camp Aguinaldo, the military general headquarters in Manila, said the encounter took place in Brgy. Lebanon in Montevista, Campostela Valley at around 3am.
The reports said that troops of the army’s 66th Infantry Battalion were conducting security patrol operation in the area when it chanced upon seven armed men belonging to the NPA’s Front 33 Committee.
A fierce firefight quickly ensued between the two sides lasting for several minutes resulting to the killing of the two still unidentified armed men, while no casualties were reported on the government side, the reports said.
The reports said that troops were able to recover the bodies of the two slain rebels as well as an improvised landmine, a .45 caliber pistol, two mobile phones and a backpack containing personal belongings.
