Anakbayan condemns Palace, allies for FOI bill murder
YOUTH group Anakbayan today slammed President Aquino for ‘Noynoying’ on the Freedom of Information Bill and said it further exposes the anti-corruption and pro-transparency campaign of the president as a fraud.
“Yung Cybercrime law, ang bilis-bilis nilang ipasa ni hindi nga natin halos namalayan. Pero kapag sa karapatan na ng mamamayan, wala nang aksyon,” Anakbayan Chairperson Vencer Crisostomo said.
Yesterday, the House Committee on Public Information adjourned the hearing on the FOI bill without progress, effectively killing chances of the bill being passed.
“This shows that the Palace has its own deadly sins, anomalies it does not want exposed. Mr. Aquino promised support for FOI bill during his campaign, instead, he and his allies watered down the bill and then murdered it. Hypocrisy is the theme of this administration,” Crisostomo said.
Anakbayan said that the Palace’s Liberal Party mates such as the committee’s chief Ben Evardone, are clearly acting on Palace orders to the “murder” of the FOI bill.
“Aquino can prioritize and pass the FOI bill if he wills it. But it seems his government is afraid of transparency and accountability,” Crisostomo said.
Crisostomo said that without an FOI law, acquiring public information such as SALNs will remain difficult, which is important in ensuring trust, transparency and accountability in government.
“Aquino is afraid that his transactions with his KKK and cronies will be exposed to the public. He is afraid that his efforts to protect foreign and landlord interests be further exposed to the public. This is both a murder and a cover-up,” he said.
