Aquino-Ampatuan, partners under the Liberal Party
TEN out of 74 Ampatuans who are running in the 2013 elections are under the Liberal party, the chairman of which is President Benigno Aquino III.
“This is how the Aquino administration contributes to the further entrenchment of political dynasties in power. This is not surprising because many of our lawmakers benefit from such a system as well,” said Pauline Gidget Estella, CEGP national president. The Ampatuans stand as the accused in the 2009 Maguindanao Massacre case.
“The warlordism and the climate of impunity that prevail in many areas of the country are only offshoots of a political system characterized by monopoly of power. ‘Political dynastism’ has resulted in excessive use of power, corruption and violence, all tolerated by the national government,” said Estella.
“We do not expect our government to support the anti-political dynasty bill because many of our government officials are part of political dynasties,” added Estella.
