Campaign on loose firearms intensifies
THE PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) continue to flex its muscles against loose firearms holders as the campaign period for next year’s mid-term election draw nearer.
CIDG chief, Director Samuel Pagdilao Jr., said that their recent drive against loose firearms have resulted in the seizure of several high powered firearms in Nueva Ecija, Bataan and Butuan City.
“As election the 2013 election draws nearer… the CIDG is flexing its muscles to scour provinces and regions of loose firearms in anticipation of the possible rise in firearms related crimes,” Pagdilao said.
The CIDG chief said their operatives in Nueva Ecija on Wednesday morning raided the premises of a certain Manuel Austria in Brgy. Cabal 1, Talavera town resulting to the seizure of a .45 caliber pistol, two magazines and 20 rounds of ammo.
Also on Wednesday, joint operatives of the CIDG Bataan and Provincial Public Safety Company (PPSC) arrested Eduardo Tamayo, 41, of Brgy. Palihan, Orani, Bataan in an entrapment operation.
Pagdilao said the operation resulted in the confiscation of an M16 armalite rifle and two magazines loaded with rounds of ammunition from the suspect.
In Butuan City, CIDG operatives arrested Allan Madrona after swooping down on his and resulted also in the confiscation of a .45 caliber and .38 caliber pistols , the CIDG chief said.
Pagdilao said all the arrested suspects have been charged with violation of PD 1866 as amended by RA 8294 or illegal possession of firearms.
