Health workers launch weeklong ‘kalampag’ vs privatization of health
THE Alliance of Health Workers (AHW) and Network Opposed to Privatization (NOP) launched a week-long intensified campaign in preparation for their “Pambansang Protesta ng Mamamayan Laban sa Pribatisasyon ng mga Pampublikong Ospital” on Nov. 19, 2012.
This is a major activity after the successful health workers’ mass walk out last October 25, 2012 which has caught the attention of both DOH and Malacanang and urged them to counter the health workers’ opposition to privatization of health.
Various activities are scheduled to drumbeat the issue; call the attention and solicit the support of the health workers, the patients, and the general public against the privatization of health which will result to increased hospital fees and becoming unaffordable to the people. Included are hospitals hopping for discussion on the issues on privatization of health, signature gathering for an open letter to Benigno Aquino III, information material dissemination and lobbying at the Senate and Congress.
The group visited yesterday the National Center for Mental Health (NCMH) which is up for sale together with the Welfareville Property. In line for the succeeding days are Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center, Philippine Orthopedic Center and Philippine General Hospital.
The AHW and NOP are earnestly soliciting the widest public support possible for a concerted action to fight for free, comprehensive and progressive health care.
