Lady solon calls for rebates on text overcharging
ZAMBALES Rep. Mitos Magsaysay is calling on telecom companies to do the responsible thing by complying with the order of the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) in December 2011 to reduce text charges to P.80 and return overcharged fees to consumers in the form of rebates.
“The telecom industry has been earning billions from text charges for many years already and reducing the rate to benefit consumers is a small thing to share the benefits of their profits to their consumers. Industry players need to abide by the order of the NTC, which is the regulating body for the industry.”
Magsaysay said that telecom firms should study how they can return overcharged amounts to consumers and while this may prove to be difficult, especially for prepaid subscribers, it is not impossible.
“I believe that the telecom companies are capable of doing it if they set their mind to it, especially since they have been upgrading their infrastructure and technologies. While they have the right to contest NTC ruling, I sincerely hope that they do not take matters to course and just do this as an early Christmas present to their loyal subscribers.”
